Nik Kershaw was a member of a number of semi professional bands in the Ipswich area during the early eighties. When the last of these bands split in 1982 Nik decided to embark on a solo career. The switch to solo artist was a successful one with Nik quickly signing a major record deal in 1983 and issuing his debut solo single the same year; I Won't Let the Sun Go Down On Me. This single was a hit although not on its original release. It took a second single Wouldn't It Be Good to become the major breakthrough that Nik was looking for and a reissued I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me was re released and quickly became a major hit.
Nik's debut album Human Racing was also released in 1983 and managed to make the top 5 of the album charts in the UK. Further albums and singles followed although these albums were seen to be aimed at a more mature audience Nik still commanded a big audience. By the nineties however he was becoming better known as a song writer and producer writing hit singles for the Boy Band Let Loose, The Hollies and a massive international hit The One And Only for Chesney Hawkes.
Following the release of his first two albums Nik Kershaw toured regularly , something which continues to this day however the biggest gig he played in his career will always be at Wembley stadium on July 13th 1985 as part of the Global "Live Aid" concert.

CD/DVD Review: Nik Kershaw - Live in Germany 1984 (From The Bolton News)
By Martin Hutchinson
The concert captured on this CD/DVD package is from his appearance at the 1984 Montreux Music
Festival (so why is it called Live in Germany? Montreux is in Switzerland.
With a wildly appreciative audience watching, Nik and his band performed most ofthe Human Racing
album along with his singles and b sides (which include the marvellous Dark Glasses.
Apart from the hits previously mentioned, the singles Human Racing and Dancing Girls are also here; and
the highlight of the album tracks just has to be Drum Talk.
Following this, Nik aimed himself at a more adult market and penned hits for The Hollies as well as the
chart topper for Chesney Hawkes, The One And Only.
This concert captures Nik at his early best, with a faultless live show backed by his more than adequate
band.
Check out also the clothes, you can definitely tell it is an eighties gig.
