Bill Bruford’s name is synonymous with state-of-the-art drumming and percussion, and is famously associated with several of the greatest progressive rock groups of all time: Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, and UK. Early success subsequently propelled Bill, by nature a restless innovator uncomfortable with the well-worn path, into a fascinating 41-year career as a bandleader and writer.
A watershed career change in 1986 saw Bill move to jazz and Summerfold Records was founded in 2004 to cater for his extensive catalogue of influential and imaginative collaborations with his main band Earthworks and dozens of the world’s top musicians.
This double CD is a collection of twenty-two of the best tracks from across twelve Summerfold albums, and features music from an eclectic range of artists including Bill Bruford’s Earthworks, Michiel Borstlap, Ralph Towner, Tim Garland and World Drummers Ensemble. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, key tracks such as My Heart Declares A Holiday, Stromboli Kicks, Kinship, From The Source We Tumble Headlong, and Baye Kene N’Diaye will act as an excellent introduction to the jazz side of Bill Bruford, an enduring master-drummer and one of the most innovative players of his generation.
