Various Artists - The Best Of Beat, Beat, Beat Vol 3

'One upon a time in Germany...Broadcast from Frankfurt, the German network TV pop show Beat Beat Beat ran for 26 editions from it's launch in late 1965 to its final transmission in January 1969. Borrowing the successful format of the early years of Top Of The Pops - chart artists miming to backing tracks in front of studio audiences mixed with live performances - the content of these three 'Best Of' collections reflects the electic mix of the artists who appeared on the show during its three and something year run. Vol 1 features appearances from Brain Auger and the Trinity
featuring Julie Driscoll, Chris Farlow, a clean cut Cat Stevens, a squeaky clean Herman's Hermits, the Easybeats and Barry Ryan looking like a fresh faced Alan Vega during a showstopping rendition of
Eloise. Vol 2 meanwhile includes the Mindbenders, PP Arnold and the Creation with the stand out moment coming on PJ Proby's extraordinary mime on What's Wrong With My World where he fashions a hobo beatnik look that's remarkable close to Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider. Completing the trio Vol 3 collects together footage of the Searchers, the Tremeloes, the Smoke plus two dynamite performances from the Move.' Grahame Bent (Record Collector)

Beat Beat Beat was a German music programme that ran during the sixties. Not to be confused with the other well known German pop programme Beat Club, Beat Beat Beat was broadcast out of Frankfurt commencing in 1966. The programme ran to 26 episodes between its launch in 1966 and the final programme in January 1969, all of which are still in the German television archives. The shows were eclectic affairs and included performances by artists as diverse as Eric Burdon and the New Animals, The Move, Sam and Dave, Cat Stevens and Barry Ryan, to name just a few.

This volume in the Beat Beat Beat series of releases is rather a mixed bag! We have two tracks from The Move including the band's second single I Can Hear The Grass Grow. There is the psychedelically tinged My Friend Jack from The Smoke, which was banned in the UK. There are three tracks from Liverpool band The Searchers, including the hits Sweets For My Sweet and Love Potion Number Nine and finally we have two massive hits from The Tremeloes with Silence Is Golden and Here Comes My Baby,  which as I am sure everyone knows was written by Cat Stevens.
