James Brown - Live In America

James brown, the godfather of soul, really doesn’t need any introductions, and it seems that his popularity has only grown after his death in 2006. This one-hour live gig was originally released on VHS 20 years ago, so it was about time to get the material also into DVD format. The big band naturally also features a brass section the most famous member possibly being Maceo Parker who played with Brown already in the 60’s and later on in Parliament and Funkadelic. All the rest are brilliantly professional as well, of course. The 15 tracks naturally include for example the hits ”I Got You (I Feel Good)”, ”Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” and ”It’s a Man’s Man’s World”, but “(I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine” is missing. The going is mostly sweaty and tight funk grooving but there is also room for a couple of more peaceful soul pieces like ”Georgia on My Mind” and ”It’s a Man’s Man’s World”. Brown changes his outfit every now and then, he really gets that sweaty. The audience goes nuts, and what else could you do during a show by such a show man? The package also includes the gig on CD so I guess this is a must-have for all the fans.

James Brown was universally considered the Godfather of Soul from the start of his career in the fifties right through until his death in 2006. His career reached a pinnacle during the sixties when he was considered one of the world’s greatest live performers, something borne out by the legendary live album Live At The Apollo. He also enjoyed great success in the singles market with songs like I Got You (I feel Good), Get Up, (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine, Papa’s Got A brand New Bag, It’s A Man’s Man’s World, The payback and Get Up Offa That Thing.

In short he became a cultural icon as well as a music Icon. James Brown: Live In America was originally released in 1991 on VHS and now Gonzo Multimedia have extreme pleasure in re-issuing this legendary concert footage on DVD. The concert (filmed in America, as the title suggests) also features Maceo Parker who famously played with Brown during the sixties, and Parliament and Funkadelic during the seventies.

Since James brown’s death in 2006 his reputation has increased and this DVD will find a large audience ready and waiting for this release.
