The Tornadoes' fame rests on their membership of the exclusive club of the first wave of Californian surf instrumental combos to take to the waves. With their career revived decades later thanks to the inclusion of their sole hit Bustin' Surfboards on the soundtrack of Pulp Fiction, this 26 track trip back in time mixes a selection of vintage material from the early '60s with more recent studio and live tracks
from the late '90s and beyond. Most fascinating of all are those tracks engineered by a fresh-faced Frank Zappa then working on his first job at the PAL studios in Cucamonga - later to become infamous
as the fabled Studio Z.
All these vintage '60s studio tracks either appeared on The Tornadoes seriously rare Bustin' Surfboards album originally released on Josie in 1963 or previously surfaced on the Beyond The Surf - Best Of The
Tornadoes compilation in 1999. Of the more recent recordings eight tracks are taken from the German CD Bustin' Surfboards '97, which updated the classic Tornadoes sound in the wake of the Pulp Fiction-inspired surf revival of the mid-90s with three tracks recorded live at 2004's Zappanale 15 Festival in Germany plus a 2005 studio reworking of the trusty Bumble Bee Stomp from 1962.
